The Candid Idylls of a State Representative” is a heartfelt and inspiring biography that celebrates the life of Elizabeth N. Metayer. It’s a fitting tribute to a woman who dedicated her life to serving her community with passion and integrity. This book is an excellent read for those interested in political biographies, grassroots activism, and the personal stories behind public service. Corbin’s affectionate portrayal of Metayer’s life offers a valuable reminder of the human side of politics and the enduring impact of sincere public service.

Pacific Book Review

This is the perfect read for those who enjoy non-fiction reads, especially those who enjoy biographies and memoirs as well as political-driven and social change style books. The themes of the book are powerful as well, including the drive for women representation in politics. Seeing the hardships that the State Representative had to overcome as pushback against her candidacy to begin with came to light on the page. The setting also played such a heavy part of the book, as readers get a greater sense of life in Massachusetts, especially the Commonwealth area, and the impact that local and state government can have on specific locations like this was powerful to read about.

Hollywood Book Reviews

One of the best elements of the content in this book is that you get to know more about Massachusetts. Be it the people, the recreational and natural resources, activities, institutions of learning, the socio-economic side of it, the towns, the state's history, the culture, and how policies have affected the state over the years. There are tons of positive things written about Elizabeth Metayer and the changes she brought. One of the biggest lessons every leader should take is that politics should be issue-based. I also admire how Elizabeth Metayer loved her family, and especially her grandchildren. One can feel the genuine and unconditional love she shared, not just with her family, but also with the people she served. I recommend it to readers who enjoy biographies, and literature about politics and leadership.
